 | Beginning in May, 1980, 130000 Cubans departed from the port of Mariel for Key West, Florida. Ramon is a `Marielito', the new Cuban refugee. His adaptation to life in the United States is a difficult process. First, he must overcome the negative stereotype associated with being a `Marielito' (notoriously introduced to the public by Al Pacino's character in Brian DePalma's "Scarface"). Next, there is the matter of finding a job and otherwise integrating into North American society. Through it all, he finds freedom, abundance, confusion and deceit...but he also finds `Amigos'. |
