.22 LR CCI Shotshell

Testing the CCI Shotshell in .22 LR. This is a decent cartridge for the intended purpose...small rodents, snakes, etc. at very short range, but absolutely not adequate for personal self-defense. CCI DOES NOT advertise the shotshell for self-defense. Test gun is a Ruger 10/22. Demonstration of shot patterns at various distances and penetration examples. Why a .22 caliber firearm may be the most important purchase you can make...

Hopefully this videos gets my point across. Rimfire firearms are a very important thing to have for a multitude of reasons. Hopefully I hit on everything.

Ruger 10/22: The Everyman's Rifle, Part 1

Part 1 of 2: Every shooter in the US should own a Ruger 10/22 (and I wish my overseas viewers could too!). It is the everyman's, all-around .22 rifle. It shocks me when I find one that doesn't! That's because it provides immense enjoyment and capabilities for such a low cost. Even out-of-box, the venerable 10/22 is accurate, very reliable, tough, ergonomic, lightweight, easy to use and carry, and most of all, fun! It continues to be an extremely successful Ruger design, having sold well over 5 million copies (and still going strong). It has out-sold and out-survived many other .22 designs to include the Remington Nylon 66. The 10/22 has always represented amazing value. That's because for a reasonable price you are getting a rifle that will probably last your entire lifetime. My circa 1976 10/22 (shown) was given to me as a young man by my Dad and has adventured with me in the swamps of Florida and Alabama, the woods of Virginia, Montana, and Washington, the plains of North Dakota, and in the deserts of Utah, eastern Oregon, Arizona, and Idaho. And it's still going strong! There are fancier and equally as-fun .22 rifles available but the 10/22s excel in most areas (and several cool Distributor Exclusive 10/22s abound, like the shown French walnut stocked TALO version) and provide unmatched versatility for the user. The 10/22 has a modular, simple design that makes upgrades to the trigger, bolt, magazine, stock, barrel, and sighting systems easy (many options shown in this ...

Marlin Papoose .22: "Top Survival Rifle" by Nutnfancy

The Marlin Papoose .22 rifle is an excellent all-around .22 rifle choice. Weighing only 3.2 lbs (!) and having the capability to break down easily into a buoyant carry case, the Papoose is extremely portable. It is lighter and more compact than most other .22s around. And unlike some other previous survival .22s, its accurate and reliable while still offering adequate firepower. Other features include a grooved receiver for scope mounting, last shot hold open, high visibility open sights, stainless steel construction, sling swivels, a decent trigger, a fiberglass polycarbonate stock, and the availability of 10 rd magazines (7 rd standard). The Marlin Papoose will function well in different roles: family .22 rifle, survival kit gun, or backpacking gun. The version shown wears a compact and lightweight Weaver 4x28 Classic Rimfire scope (#849430, SWFA.com) which maximizes its accuracy. Its the best .22 pack rifle around.

SIG 522: "Tactical .22 Done Right" by Nutnfancy

Imagine a Tactical .22 carbine that will feed pretty much whatever rounds you throw in it. If it seems far fetched then you must have some trigger time of similar .22s that will occasionally jam and bobble unless fed a high impulse round like CCI Mini Mags, which are more expensive. The Sig 522 achieved amazing reliability in the Nutnfancy testing regime with several brands and types of rounds...not one jam in over 2000 rounds fired! And most of those rounds were low quality Federal WalMart HP ammo that gives my other tested guns fits...including the CMMG AR-15 conversion. This ability to take regular quality .22 ammo makes the 522 very cheap to shoot. This stellar reliability is contained within an original and cool rifle design that mimics the Sig 550/556 Classic lines and is often mistaken as such (the fake gas block adjustment is another nice touch). Its forend is trim and ergonomic and can be accessorized with useful railing for light and VG attachment (highly recommended for tactical practice). The barrel profile is perfect for a .22 and is topped off by a standard AR-15 threaded flash suppressor...outstanding. This means the Sig 522 can readily accept a suppressor. The receive is stout, milled from 7075 aluminum and when mated with the precision bolt is one reason the gun is so reliable: the bolt rides precisely in a milled aluminum channel. This aluminum receiver should prove to be durable in the attachment of optics and wear and tear. The lower receive is polymer ...

.22 LR TRACERS

Brief overview of the .22 long rifle tracer from Piney Mountain Ammunition, followed by shooting segments including POV. Distances of 60 to 80 yards in controlled conditions at specific targets. These were purchased at the Knob Creek Gun Show in West Point, Kentucky. They are also available via several online outlets from $15 to $25 for a box of 50 rounds. This cartridge definitely 'lights up". At an advertised 1070 fps, it is subsonic. I did not chronograph, but I'm thinking that 1070 fps is a stretch for this 40 gr bullet. It drops off quickly, dramatically affecting accuracy. This is also a quiet shooter; my neighbor's dog didn't even bark at the noise. PLEASE NOTE: You need optimum ground and weather conditions for shooting any type of tracers. You alone are responsible for your actions.
